China Brand Protection
China possesses a well-deserved reputation as the global epicenter of counterfeiting and piracy. A. Louie works to protect and survey leading brand’s interests in China.
In recent years, the government has taken measures to prevent illegal counterfeiting and brand theft. However, national policy adopted in Beijing rarely translates into effective action at provincial or local levels.
Brand protection is not merely a matter of properly registering intellectual property with the appropriate Chinese authorities. It is an ongoing tactical process supported by a flexible, market-tuned strategy as well as an effective monitoring policy.
We cooperate and work closely with relevant government officials within our nationwide network to tactically deploy strategies we jointly develop with our clients.
General Measures
Tailored Measures
General measures tend to be a starting point. Effective brand protection requires development of an ongoing strategy that meets with each client's needs, corporate culture, products, IP assets and the nature of documented IP infringements. A. Louie works with organizations to create the most effective prevention and enforcement plan.
Case Example:
A. Louie worked with an Asian car manufacturer to identify the illegal use of its logo and brand name on various products in Northern China. A. Louie documented all instances of piracy and brand infringement in a sting operation. Our team worked with the company’s lawyers to effectuate the closure of the factories manufacturing these pirated products and compensate the car company with a legal settlement.
